Day 13 - Alice Springs - Sat 24 Oct 2015
A day of rest, of no travel. Well, sort of. There was a slow start to the day as we stretched and yawned and eased into breakfast. There was a bit to do today.
After breakfast we formed into rough teams with allocated tasks. Some were on to the bikes, giving them a complete pull-through, including changing oil and filters, checking every nut, bolt and screw and cleaning and lubricating chain. Brad also replaced the broken spokes in Joc’s front wheel to get him almost completely up to speed again.
Another team attacked the Chuckwagon, which was ruefully dirty and unclean. Outside it was red dust and dirt and inside it was red dust, dirt and food and goon. We had had a couple of issues with food and liquid spilling in and out of the trailer and so it was opened up and fully hosed out and washed down to set us up for the second half of the trip. Max and The Troopy were stripped out of their contents and then they went down to the car wash for a thorough scrub and vacuum.
People underwent a clean-up as well. Last evening we all went through the showers and then today we went further with haircuts and some getting a massage at a local masseur. Razors and shavers were also out for some, cleaning off the stubble and growth of the past 12-odd days. Being practical blokes we administered the haircuts with our own specially purchased TTT Clippers. They cost $45 but we have already got about 5 cuts out of them so they will pay for themselves.
Of particular interest was a pre-planned drop of extra supplies, namely a couple of boxes of Brown Brother’s finest and some parts for Brock’s bike. We have seen the dark side of the goon by going away from Brown Brothers when stocks were low. All this did for us was fill the bottom of the Chuckwagon with the stuff (and Rob-dog’s bag) and stink it up. The quality product that is Brown Bros. is packaged properly for outback conditions.
As the day wound on various sorties were run in and out of town, we had a swim, yada, yada, yada. We finished the day with a sortie out to the Casino where we invested our hard-earned with Carl who got a fair return. Ohso and Ferg also had a lesson in Baccarat which returned 200% on there investment (an investment of $5 each, tight-arses!).
