Breaking Bad.
Any trip like this invariably involves some breakage and damage to parts and loss of items. We have discussed some of the more key happenings in the blog, but here for your pleasure is a bit more of a comprehensive list:
Tail lights, indicators, back guard and a hand-guard on Scotty’s KTM busted off;
Fairing and badge on the side of Carl’s BMW (twice as he has fallen on it twice) damaged, a bark buster and the left hand front turn signal all busted off;
Barbeque gas hose burnt;
Carl’s contour camera missing in action on Emu Road. His Panasonic Video Camera is also o its last legs after a couple of treks;
Joel left his towel at the Coober Pedy Underground Motel;
A KTM turn signal off Rohan’s bike. Note that this is one of the modified ones he had fitted up after busting off the poorly loctade original ones;
Rohan also lost an SD card adaptor and a chap stick;
An LED torch;
Robin’s Chair gave up the ghost on the Anne Beadell track;
Garry has lost a squillion water bottles and occy straps off his bike;
Hooch’s Pajero has had three flat tyres;
Two treg trailer hitches have busted up (splitting the rubber blocks) and were either stuffed or repaired with the best hose clamps we have ever seen;
A jerry can stolen by 'the fairies in the night' at Coober Pedy;
Chuck Wagon broke a spring and two centre bolts. All credit and thanks to Tim at Bull's In Coober Pedy who welded it up for us;
Probably at least a slab and a half of beer through the cans rubbing together in the fridge or ute tray and also lost a couple that were left in the freezer at Maralinga (chasing a quick cold beer);
A bit of food went off from the heat;
Rohan's bike helmet and bike got scratched and marked when the wind blew it off a stand outside the William Creek Hotel when he was trying to fx a flat rear tyre;
Two BMW rims bent from rocks;
We lost our funnel somewhere. Note in the picture above our temporary funnel made from a plastic juice bottle. It was a ripper and we didn't bother to buy a new one. Scotty and Hector use it here to refill the KTM at Dingo Flats Gate;
A couple of tubes for the Buckrabunyule KTM and also one for Garry. Rohan's problems on the second last day seemed to be caused by the disintegration of the rim tape, causing the spoke nipples to rub on the tube;
We busted or wore out quite a few tie-down straps;
Brocky's lap top went to the grenn screen of deah in the last days and could not be used.
This doesn't take into account things like wear and tear on the bikes and cars, scratches, dents, holes in boots and bark busters from sticks, stone dents and scratches, tyre wear on the bikes from riding long distances on asphalt, scracthes and marks to things like fridges, eskies, and laptops, wear, tear and general dust and dirt infiltrating into everything. All up, its a big list, but we still love to do this stuff!
